Kem the Little Soldier Boy of Ancient Egypt
The Little Soldier Boy of Ancient Egypt
A Story for Kids
Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, where the sun beat down on the golden sands, there lived a young boy named Kem. Kem lived in ancient Egypt, during a time when the mighty Pharaohs ruled the land.
Kem was just an ordinary boy, with messy black hair and bright, curious eyes. But Kem was also an extraordinary boy, for he had a heart full of bravery and a soul full of kindness.
One day, while out exploring the bustling streets of Thebes, Kem came across a group of soldiers, marching to the sound of drums and the beating of the wings of sacred falcons. The soldiers were off to battle, to fight against the invading Hittites.
Kem's father was a soldier, and Kem had often heard the stories of the Pharaoh's battles from his father's tales of adventure and courage. Kem felt a strong urge to join his father on the battlefield, to fight alongside his father and to protect the great Pharaoh.
But Kem's parents knew that their little boy was too young for war, and so they refused to let him join the fight. They instead, enrolled Kem in the training school of the Egyptian soldiers. For several months, Kem learned all about combat, tactics and diplomacy. He trained day and night with the best warriors in the land.
As the days turned into weeks, and the weeks into months, Kem became an expert soldier, trained in all aspects of warfare. He proved himself to be a brave, loyal, and quick-witted young boy. And as he watched the sun rise over the Nile, he dreamed of the day when he would return from battle, his head held high, with a heart full of triumph and glory.
The day of the great battle arrived. The armies of Egypt and Hittite clashed in a sea of chaos, arrows flew, horses galloped, and swords clashed on shields. Kem was at the front, fighting bravely, just as he had dreamed of. He battled bravely, his sword shining, as he fought against the enemy.
Just as Kem was about to attack, his eyes saw the wounded form of a Hittite soldier. In an instant, Kem had dropped his sword and knelt down to the side of
his fallen foe. The wounded Hittite, weak and struggling to breathe, smiled weakly at Kem and called out his name. It was Kem's best friend, Ankh. He was hit in the arm and leg, and badly wounded, Kem did what only he could - to comfort and to protect Ankh.
The outcome was decided before anyone else. Ankh managed to smile with one final breath of energy that told his young friend, Kem, that all was forgiven.
As Kem held Ankh's head in his hands, his friend told him in his last moments to remember that we all fight different wars.
And so, as Kem held his fallen comrade in his arms, he thought that the lessons of life went far beyond warfare, to friendship, forgiveness and trust, for this war, in fact, only seemed a temporary one.
